World Environment Day (WED) - “Restoring our Ecosystems – Together”
World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event organized by the United Nations, hosted by a different country on 5 June each year. This year’s theme is “Restoring our Ecosystems – Together” and marks the launch of the Decade of Ecosystem Restoration. You can join this conversation online using the hashtag #GenerationRestoration and show us, and the world, how you care about the environment today and every day.
The restoration of our ecosystems can help to end poverty, combat climate change, and prevent extinction. At Seco Tools, we are dedicated to making environmental sustainability a Business Goals 2030, focusing on:
- Circularity (more efficient use of materials and resources, reducing waste), and
- Climate (halving the CO2 impact from our production and transport of people and products).
Health and self-care have caused more people to spend time outdoors, exploring their local area and reconnecting with nature. We cannot turn back time, but we can grow trees, increase green spaces, clean up rivers, etc. around the world.
Later this year, the world’s nations will agree a new Global Biodiversity Framework at the United Nations’ COP15 convention. The aim is that each nation should implement meaningful changes at national/local level to restore nature, reversing its decline. Each of us has the possibility to make a difference through our actions and choices – particularly in urban areas, which occupy less than 1 per cent of the earth’s land surface, but house more than half its people.
